Summer Term 1

A new Term is upon us at Bush Hill Park, and with it comes a flurry of new topics in the Amethyst Classroom!

Topic: Roots, Shoots and Fruits
 Students will learn and inquire about the life cycle of plants and what kind of plant life we have in London and how it compares to the rest of the world.

Religious Education: Sihkism
The Sikh community and Gurdwara. We will be making connections between narratives of the key events based on the lives of the Gurus and their teaching.

PSHE: Health & Well-being:We will be learning about our bodies and how they change, the media and its influence on our body image, looking after our physical and emotional health. 

Maths:

Week 1: Measurement (perimeter and area of shapes)

We will be learning:
Monday -  how to calculate the perimeter of shapes
Tuesday -  how to calculate the area of shapes (rectangles and squares)
Wednesday -  how to find unknown lengths in shapes
Thursday - how to find the area of irregular shapes
Friday - Assessment on weekly topic

Week 2: Number and Place Value

We will be learning
Monday - How order 6 digit numbers
Tuesday -  How to round 6 digit numbers
Wednesday - Using the systematic approach to solving word problems
Thursday - Understanding Roman numerals
Friday - Assessment on weekly topic

Week 3: Addition and Subtraction

We will be learning
Monday -  Mental addition and subtraction of large numbers
Tuesday - Understanding written addition method of large numbers
Wednesday - Understanding written subtraction method of large numbers
Thursday - Using the systematic approach to solve word problems
Friday - Assessment on weekly topic

Week 4: Properties of shape

We will be learning
Monday - Refresher on addition and subtraction
Tuesday - Using properties of rectangles
Wednesday - Introducing diagonals
Thursday - Regular and irregular polygons
Friday - Using angle sum facts

 Week 5: Multiplication and division, including Measurement (money)

We will be learning
Monday - Assessment on weekly topic
Tuesday - Multiplying and dividing 4-digit numbers
Wednesday - Multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1000 including decimals
Thursday - Multiplication TO x TO using factors
Friday - Using the systematic approach to solve word problems

Week 6: Fractions

We will be learning
Monday - Improper fractions and mixed numbers
Tuesday - Improper fractions and mixed numbers (con't)
Wednesday - Multiplying proper fractions
Thursday - Multiplying mixed numbers
Friday - Assessment on weekly topic (week 5 and 6)

Week 7: Measurement (volume and capacity)


We will be learning
Monday - Converting between metric units of capacity
Tuesday - Using approximate equivalences between metric and imperial units of capacity
Wednesday - Introducing volume
Thursday - Using the systematic approach to solve word problems
Friday - Assessment on weekly topic
